Cannes in Cairns, a conference for the advertising industry, catered to the needs of over 700 Australian delegates who were unable to travel to France for Cannes Lions.
The event, which took place May 16-18, was hosted by The Misfits Media Company in lieu of the French publicity and media event Cannes Lions, which was inaccessible to Australian delegates due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. 19.
During the day, sessions were hosted by the newly refurbished Cairns Convention Centre. During these sessions, more than 700 delegates listened to speakers from the Australian media, marketing and advertising industry.
Speakers at the event included former world number one tennis player Ash Barty, Executive Chairman of Yellow Brick Road Group Mark Bouris, television host and ‘Flex Factory’ founder Lillian Ahenkan, writer and filmmaker John Safran and Australian Paralympian Grant Patterson.
Dan Uglow, organizer of the event’s welcome party and co-founder of The Misfits Media Company, explained that along with Pinterest, the event was supported by seven other brands: Nine, NewsCorp, Pubmatic, Ben & Jerry’s, Tug, Adobe and Microsoft.
“Nine wanted to do something impactful, very visual, and a bit fun. A Ferris wheel in the middle of nowhere seemed like a crazy idea, and it’s still the best idea,” Uglow said.
The welcome party ferris wheel was last seen at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Normally hosted in Townsville, the wheel was already close to the working sugar cane farm hosting the event. As 95% of Australian sugar cane is found in Queensland, the state’s sugar cane farms double as great event spaces.
At the end of the conference, Pinterest Australia and New Zealand country manager Melinda Petrunof said she hoped delegates would take home a “renewed sense of perspective, energy and purpose.” “.
