All of this makes for a very photographic experience, so it’s no surprise that the event turned out to be so popular on social media.
At the time of the study, there were over 50,000 Instagram posts using the hashtag #christmasatkew.
Christmas in Kew was beaten by just one other Christmas market in Europe: Zagreb’s Advent in Zagreb, Croatia, which had over 68,000 Instagram posts.
Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland also made it into the top 10 most picturesque Christmas markets in Europe, coming in ninth.
But Christmas in Kew, who returned for his ninth year this winter, came out on top in the UK.
This year, the event features over a million twinkling lights with new and ambitious installations, including an overhead light show that mimics the Northern Lights.
Another new installation on display brings botanical illustrations from the Kew Archives to life alongside festive images, using trees from the Kew Arboretum as a canvas.
Returning highlights include a 12-day Christmas tree installation, the Christmas Cathedral, singing neon lights, and a fire garden.
The final stop on the journey, the panoramic Palm House finale, greets guests with a series of screenings to an original soundtrack of Christmas classics.
