Jurassic World’s spinosaurus return is a massive disappointment

The Spinosaurus returns in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 4 but its minor role has made a disappointing return for the super predator.

Warning: SPOILERS for Jurassic World: Cretaceous Camp Season 4.

The Spinosaurus returned in Jurassic World: Cretaceous Camp season 4, but the apex predator was sadly underused. In Cretaceous Camp season 4, Darius (Paul-Mikel Williams), Brooklynn (Jenna Ortega), Kenji (Ryan Potter), Sammy (Raini Rodriguez), Ben (Sean Giambrone) and Yasmina (Kausar Mohammed) finally escaped Jurassic World before being abandoned a new island owned by Mantah Corp. The teens must save the dinosaurs raised by Mantah Corp as part of their plot to create a prehistoric creature fight club to amuse their wealthy clientele.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Spinosaurus made its debut in Jurassic Park III as the film’s main dinosaur antagonist and it changed the Jurassic franchise. Prior to Jurassic Park III, predatory dinosaurs like the T-Rex were just misunderstood animals while Velociraptors were the real villains among prehistoric creatures. In Jurassic Park III, the Spinosaurus killed a T-Rex immediately after its introduction, signaling a change in which the super predator was now the real villain to fear from humans on Isla Sorna, led by Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill). The Spinosaurus did not die in Jurassic Park 3 and was left on Isla Sorna, but its impact resulted in the Jurassic franchise creating even scarier hybrid dinosaurs. Jurassic World introduces the Indominus Rex, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom created the Indoraptor, and Jurassic World: Cretaceous Camp season 3 debuted with the Scorpios Rex.

Jurassic World: Cretaceous CampThe teens found out that Mantah Corp had its own Spinosaurus in Season 4. The super finned predator lives in the Desert Biome, one of four environments Mantah Corp designed as the setting for their super dinosaur fights. Since there was no Spinosaurus in Jurassic World on Isla Nublar, Darius and his friends never saw one in the flesh and they were understandably terrified and ran for their lives. But while it was a treat to see a thoroughbred Spinosaurus again since he killed a T-Rex in Jurassic Park III, the appearances of the massive carnivore in Cretaceous Camp Season 4 was always a bummer as the creature morphed into a minor dinosaur character who did nothing of note other than scare the teenagers.

Cretaceous Spinosaurus Camp

Jurassic World: Cretaceous Camp‘the young heroes learned that Mantah Corp used stolen DNA samples to genetically engineer their own hybrid dinosaurs for their planned fight club. Mantah Corp assembled different dinosaurs and bred them to survive in specific environments. Therefore, Mantah Corp’s Spinosaurus is not the same as that of Jurassic Park III, because this killer dino was specially bred to thrive in the desert biome of Mantah Corp. Island. The Spinosaurus also appears to share the wilderness with another prehistoric creation from Mantah Corp – a saber-toothed tiger – although the Spinosaurus did not catch and eat with the big cat.

The cast of Camp Cretaceous rescued and befriended dinosaurs like a pair of Sinoteratops babies they named Angel and Rebel, and a brachiosaur baby Ben named Firecracker. There are also two T-Rexes and a Stegosaurus who played leading roles in Season 4. The Spinosaurus being part of the Mantah Corp menagerie was a pleasant surprise, but it was still a disappointment to see how little the creature has to do in the course of the story. The fact that the Spinosaurus doesn’t fight or kill anything, and is even unable to catch six teenagers, also robs the super predator of some of its threat. Jurassic World: Cretaceous Camp Season 4 ends on a cliffhanger which signals that the nightmare of young campers on Mantah Corp Island will continue, so the Spinosaurus may have been introduced to play a bigger role in Cretaceous Camp season 5.
