Following the success of the original star wars trilogy, the wind was blowing towards CGI. However, the technology available at the time was not sophisticated enough to realize Lucas’ vision for the prequels. This is how a division was formed as a way to experiment with computer graphics – LucasArts.

Unlike the duo’s previous graphic adventure titles, Disappearance certificate would have been an action game with puzzle-solving elements and interwoven storytelling.
The game would also have avoided Curse hand-drawn visuals and 3D polygon graphics adopted. Unfortunately, according to Ahern, “Management was not happy“, leading to the eventual cancellation of the title.
9/10 Star Wars 1313 was set in carbonite
This title set in a galaxy far, far away would have taken the series in a much darker direction, putting players in the shoes of bounty hunter Boba Fett as he traverses the seedy underground city of level 1313. more than a coming-of-age story, centered around Boba Fett’s early adult years.
George Lucas and LucasFilm were reportedly heavily involved during the production of the game. Unfortunately, following the takeover by the Walt Disney Company and the dissolution of LucasArts, the title was put on hold. However, the city of 1313 made its appearance in the clone wars TV show.
8/10 Zombies Ate My Neighbors 2 is returned to its grave
the original The zombies ate my neighbors was a delightfully insane send-up of B-horror movies bolstered by addictive run n gun gameplay and a diverse roster of supernatural villains. A completely independent game has been reworked as a half-sequel in the form of the disappointing ghoul patrol, while The Adventures of Herc moved the formula to a parody of Greek mythology.
It wasn’t until several years later that a proper sequel was crafted for the original PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Unfortunately, details are scarce on this canceled follow-up, with only a few static screenshots serving as proof of the title’s existence.
7/10 Loom’s Cliffhanger Ending Would Never Be Resolved
Probably best known for his humorous advertising in The Secret of Monkey Islandby Brian Moriarty Loom deviated from the common tropes of graphic adventure titles. Instead of picking up random items and using them to solve puzzles, Bobbin used his magic distaff along with the spells he learned throughout his adventure. Players could even perform spells backwards to achieve the opposite effect.
Despite the game’s cliffhanger ending, a sequel never materialized. Brian Moriarty said subsequent games would have focused on the other factions Bobbin encountered, such as the Shepherds and Blacksmiths.
6/10 Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix was later retold in comic book form
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is one of the most acclaimed game titles among archaeologists, so it’s no surprise that a sequel is in development. The game’s visuals would have been much more ambitious, drawing heavily on batman the animated series. Unfortunately, Germany has strict laws prohibiting the depiction of Nazis in materials reputable for children, such as video games.
Since the Third Reich played a central role in this title, and much of the graphical adventure game’s revenue came from German markets, The iron phoenix was canned. However, the story was told in comic book form years later.
5/10 Free Radical’s Star Wars Battlefront III was almost done
Before EA rebooted the franchise, UK developer Free Radical had nearly completed the third installment of the original. Star Wars Battlefront series. The studio boasted an impressive resume of shooters such as the Time Separators trilogy and Second sight, making it a seemingly ideal candidate for skirmishes in a galaxy far, far away. However, after a two-year development period, Free Radical Design’s contract with LucasArts fell through.
Co-founder Steve Ellis said the game was “nearly finished”, but canceled when LucasArts deemed the promotional expenses too expensive. However, GameSpot reported an anonymous LucasArts employee accusing Free Radical of not meeting deadlines.
4/10 Full Throttle Sequel Was So Nice They Canceled It Twice
by Tim Schafer full throttle was a critical and commercial success, prompting LucasArts to order a sequel. However, Schafer was eager to work on his next idea, sinister fandango, development of the sequel was therefore led by Jonathan Ackley and Larry Ahern. The initial pitch was called Repayment, where Ben would try to thwart a plot hatched by a corrupt politician to clear the roads of bikers.
However, creative differences led to the duo’s departure and a second iteration of Sean Clark called Hell on wheels. It would have deviated from the graphic adventure roots of the first game to provide a well-rounded action title. This too was eventually canceled.
3/10 Star Wars Ragtag Couldn’t Escape The EA Empire
An original tale set in star wars universe written by Unexplored and Kain’s Legacy scribe Amy Hennig and developed by a team responsible for the dead space series? What could go wrong? The answer is EA. Doubtful about the financial prospects of the game, the company chose to devote its resources to the much maligned Star Wars Battlefront 2.
The gaming press criticized Visceral’s shutdown as another example of AAA publishers’ apathy toward story-driven single-player games. Hennig later speculated that Respawn Jedi Fallen Order was an attempt by EA to appease single-player consumers after Ragtag’s cancelation.
2/10 Telltale rose from the ashes of Sam and Max’s Independent Police
Sam and Max hit the road is one of the funniest and most beloved graphic adventure games of all time, so anticipation was high when a sequel was announced. independent policeman would have taken the duo into the third dimension while retaining the same writing staff and voice cast that made the original title so beloved.
The game was very late in production when LucasArts decided to ax the game and fire its adventure game team. Luckily, the team would form their own studio called Telltale Games and bring the duo back into their own titles.
1/10 The mouse put the kibosh on Knights Of The Old Republic 3
The Knights of the Old Republic games are considered some of the best titles based on the star wars franchise, boasting a diverse cast of compelling characters, memorable stories, and robust RPG mechanics. You’d think a third entry would be a no-brainer, but every attempt has met with a disruption in strength.
After developing the second entry, Obsidian’s pitch for a follow-up was apparently turned down when LucasArts VP Jim Ward opted to have it developed in-house. While Bioware would eventually become the MMO title The old republicDisney would close LucasArts before a proper third entry could be made.
